We love puppies! Everyone does!

Along with the cuteness, cuddles and endless devoted love.. puppies are a big commitment and a lot of thought should go into your decision to add a furry baby to your family.

One factor to seriously consider is the right training. Training is a very important part of any puppy/ dogs life for many reasons.

With this in mind All Paws have teamed up with the fabulous Sonia from Savvy Dogs, who will provide some guidance, top tips and further details on how you can contact her for training your pups!

SONIA'S JOURNEY AS A TRAINER

I have always had a great affinity with animals since a young child. It is because of this that the true essence of the human-animal bond, and the ways by which we interact and communicate with them have always intrigued me.

In 2005, I followed my heart and studied Ethology in South Africa, where I gained my Advanced Qualifications in canines. It was at that point that I channeled my passion and energy for working with them into my own successful dog training school, where I used positive reinforcement training methods. I associated with some of the countries top vets and I thrived on running puppy socialisation classes, adolescent dogs courses, right through to basic, intermediate and advanced obedience courses. Living back in the UK, I continue my wonderful journey and experiences with these special beings here in Borough Green, Sevenoaks, Kent.

I have found nothing more rewarding than working with handlers and their furry friends, growing and nurturing that ever unique and special bond. It is my aim for both owners and their dogs, to build a foundation of perfect companionship and mutual respect.

We as humans can teach our dogs to do just about anything, but a fact that we often forget, is that we have much to learn from them too.

Q & A WITH SONIA FROM SAVVY DOGS

All Paws have asked Sonia her expert opinion on; the importance of training, top training tips to master with a puppy and top tip to introduce your new puppy to your current dog.

Check out her answers below!

The Importance Of Training

Training is an essential part of owning a dog and is mentally, physically and emotionally beneficial for your puppy.

Not only does it provide a puppy with a solid foundation for learning, it also provides you both with new experiences and allows an opportunity for mutual understanding.

Training also creates a perfect platform for you to nurture and grow that every special human-animal bond that is forming between you both.

Top Training Tips To Master With A Puppy

CONSISTENCY

There are many methods to train a puppy. Whatever method you choose to take, if you are not consistent in your approach to training, your puppy will never understand the boundaries of which you are expecting them to operate.

PATIENCE & UNDERSTANDING

It is so important that you understand that your puppy is an individual! No two dogs are the same, regardless of whether they are the same breed or not. Be patient while working with your puppy and you will receive the desired result.

KEEP IT FUN

Yes this is a top training tip! If training is too serious it becomes boring. Boring for your puppy means that you will instantly lose his/her focus. Boring for you undoubtedly means your puppy will lose out on training.

Top Tip To Introduce Your Puppy To Your Dog

To achieve a successful coexistence between your new puppy and your existing pets, it is important to respect the needs of both animals when introducing them.

There are many factors that can influence this, so time and patience is key here.

Allowing them to meet on neutral ground in an open environment that provides other interesting distractions, gives them the space to interact when they choose, rather then when you do.
